Boys basketball roundup: Falcons roll past YME

GROVE CITY — ACGC harassed Yellow Medicine East with a trapping press, allowing the Falcons to score early and often in an 88-43 West Central South Conference victory on Thursday.

The Falcons won for a fifth straight time and improved to 4-0 in the conference and 6-1 overall. They play next in the Northwood Young America tournament against Springfield at 5:45 p.m. Jan. 28 in Norwood.

The Sting fell to 0-3 in the league and 0-5 overall.

ACGC’s pressure created numerous turnovers and helped the Falcons build a 34-point lead at the half.

Three Falcons scored in double figures, led by Taylor Larson with 22 points. Jacob Belgum scored 17 and Dylan Hoerchler finished two steals shy of a triple-double. He had 16 points, 10 assists and 8 steals.

YME’s Blake Lindstrom hit four 3-point shots and scored 12 points, and Joe Sannerud finished with 8 points.

Cody Boonstra had 18 points and Carter Asche nabbed 11 rebounds to power MACCRAY over Lakeview 52-40.

Bailey Boike added 15 points and Asche had 9.

Boonstra drained all three of the Wolverines’ 3-pointers.

The Wolverines are off until Jan. 4, when they play Tracy-Milroy-Balaton at home.

Central Minnesota Christian School took a huge halftime lead and while RCW played a strong second half it wasn’t enough to catch the Bluejays in a Camden Conference game Thursday in Renville.

Austin Bulthuis scored 17 points for CMCS, and Lucas Van Eps had 12.

Sam Ohden scored 6 points and had 6 rebounds and Grant Hoekstra scored 9 points.

Mitch Treml led the Jaguars with 17 points and 5 steals, and Ian Engstrom had 10 points and 9 rebounds.
