Boys basketball roundup: Goodwin scores 46 as BBE tops North

MINNETONKA — Brian Goodwin’s 46 points propelled Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa past Minneapolis North 90-75 on Saturday at the Tip Off Classic in Minnetonka.

The Jaguars stayed undefeated at 5-0 and next play Thursday at Holdingford.

Goodwin supplied 5 assists and 5 steals, and Billy Borgerding had 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 treys.

Nick Benton notched a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The young Polars (3-4) got all but three of their points from players in eighth, ninth and 10th grade with 6-foot-1 freshman guard Ahzerik Rodgers’ 24 points leading the way. North plays in the Minneapolis City Conference and Section 4A.

The Tigers fell behind 16-3 to start the game, but would fight back and take a brief lead early in the second half. However, Ortonville would make its free throws down the stretch — the Trojans made 22 in 28 attempts for the game — to keep Morris/Chokio-Alberta (0-6) winless.

James Nitz supplied the Trojans (4-2) with 23 points and 9 rebounds while Jacob Hamann chipped in another 22 points.
