Boys basketball roundup: Jaguars thrash Tigers

MORRIS — The balance of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa was too much for Morris/Chokio-Alberta Tuesday as the Jaguars cruised to a 73-37 win in the season opener for both squads.

Brian Goodwin paced the Jaguars with 19 points as Billy Borgerding followed with 15, Tanner Heinsius 11 and Trey Heinsius 9. The taller Jaguars also had plus-8 advantage in rebounds.

Eric Staebler’s 10 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists ignited the Tigers, who fell behind 40-15 at halftime. Noah Grove added 9 points.

The Jaguars — 25-2 last season — are poised to make another prolonged run in the playoffs, while the Tigers are in rebuilding mode coming off a 19-win campaign.

Benson ran out to a big first-half lead and had 10 players score in a non-conference victory on Tuesday.

KMS’ James Faulkner scored 11 points and Preston Mahlum had 4 points and 5 boards.
