Boys basketball roundup: Melrose stifles Morris/CA 77-55

MELROSE — Scottie Stone scored 34 points and Melrose handed Morris/Chokio-Alberta just its fourth loss of the season, 77-55, on Friday in Melrose.

The Tigers are now 10-2 in the West Central North, stuck in second place behind 9-0 Melrose.

Lincoln Berget and Logan Manska each notched 14 points for the Tigers, and Austin Dierks had 8 points and 8 rebounds.

Isaac Sawyer added 14 points for the Dutchmen, and Ryan Elfering had 7 points and 6 rebounds.

The Tigers next play Alexandria on Tuesday in Morris.

Jacob Belgum scored his 1,000th career point, and Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City rode a 53-point second half to beat BOLD 83-65.

Belgum totaled 26 points and 9 rebounds, while Taylor Larson contributed 28 points and 6 steals for the Falcons (8-4, 14-7).

Tyler Rock paced the Warriors (6-6, 9-11) with 21 points, and Trent Athmann had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

BOLD heads to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday, and the Falcons host Cedar Mountain/Comfrey on Monday.

Billy Borgerding broke out of a scoring slump with 27 points and the Jaguars inched closer to a 20-win season with a Central Minnesota Conference win on Friday in Brooten.

CMC-leading BBE is now 19-1 overall and 9-0 in the league. The Jags play next at Kimball on Thursday.

BBE had won at least 24 games each season the last four years.

On Friday, the Jaguars built a 20-point halftime lead and expanded it in the second.

Borgerding hit five 3-point shots and the Jags converted 22 of 32 free throw attempts.

Nick Benton had a double-double with 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds and Brian Good win had 16 points, 4 assists and 3 steals.

The Blackjacks improved to 16-4 overall, while the T-Hawks fell to 9-8.

Joey Lee added 11 points and Nathaniel Huot 6, and Joey Lee had 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 6 steals.

Ryan Maroney led Montevideo with 14 points and Spencer Hildahl grabbed 8 rebounds.

The T-Hawks play Windom today at Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, and the Blackjacks host Lakeview on Friday.

Six players scored for the Lakers with four in double digits, Austin Giese 18, Austin Ostrander 16, and Austin Lieser and Jake Amundson 13 each. Ostrander knocked down four 3-pointers and Amundson another three, while Ostrander also grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Annandale Cardinals overpowered the Wildcats with their shooting and window-polishing, storming the glass for a 39-25 advantage in rebounds.

A 47 percent accuracy in floor shots didn’t hurt either. Matt Miller scored 21, Brett Ahsenmacher 16 and John Kalthoff 9.

 Kalthoff, who also stabbed 14 rebounds, and Ahsenmacher were a productive pass-and-catch combo on the Cardinals team that defeated the Cats in the Class AAA quarterfinals last fall.

Joey Dreier with 21 points was tops for NLS, which made 17 of 50 field goals attempts (34 percent).
