Boys Basketball Roundup: NLS too much for Tigers

NEW LONDON — Ryan Vraa made 6 of 8 three-point attempts on the way to scoring 24 points and Shane Zylstra added another 18 points Tuesday to help New London-Spicer topple Morris/Chokio-Alberta 68-50.

The Wildcats (4-0) led from the get-go to open a 20-6 lead before taking a 33-27 advantage at intermission. The Wildcats’ lead never dipped below double figures in the second half.

Vraa also collected 5 assists and 5 steals, Zylstra 4 assists and 4 steals, and Brett Olson 9 points and 9 rebounds.

Eric Staebler’s game-high 27 points and 8 rebounds paced the winless Tigers (0-7). C.J. Nagel added 7 rebounds and Andrew Goulet 3 steals.

NLS hosts Litchfield on Friday while the Tigers are off until Dec. 27 when they are at the two-day St. James Invite.

Matthew VanEps had 9 points and 10 assists to pilot the Bluejays to a Camden Conference win over the Eagles on Tuesday.
