Boys basketball roundup: Warriors ground Eagles in overtime

MADISON — BOLD made two free throws in the final seconds of overtime to take out Lac qui Parle Valley 60-57 in the Section 3AA-North quarterfinals on Saturday.

It was the third time this season the two teams have gone into overtime.

The Eagles (10-16) trailed by 19 points with 15 minutes left in regulation, but rallied all the way back, capped by a Garrett Olson 3-pointer with a second remaining to tie it and send the game into OT.

After a Dylan Erickson 3 in overtime, Tyler Rock hit a 2-pointer to give BOLD a 58-57 lead with 12 seconds left. The Eagles got the offensive rebound and were fouled, but missed both free throws with a chance to take the lead again.

LQPV then fouled BOLD, which made both its free throws, and with another chance to tie, the Eagles missed a 3-point attempt as time expired.

Rock led the Warriors with 27 points and five 3-pointers, and Trent Athmann had 21 points.

Dezhown Coleman and Eric Smith both scored 12 for the Eagles.

The No. 5-seed Warriors continue on in the 3AA-North semifinals Thursday in Granite Falls against No. 1-seed Redwood Valley.

Troy Diggins scored 24 points and Jordan Thompson scored 19 in Montevideo’s win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Saturday in the Section 3AA North Sub-Section quarterfinals.

The Thunder Hawks improved to 10-14 overall and they play Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial in the semifinals on Thursday in Granite Falls.

The T-Hawks broke a nine-game losing streak and welcomed back also got guard Jesse Brace back from a knee injury suffered Jan. 11. Montevideo lost 11 of 13 with Brace on the sidelines.

Diggins and Thompson both had 5 rebounds and Thompson also had 4 assists and 3 steals. Ryan Maroney had 9 point and 8 assists, and Derek Bruns also scored 9 points.

Brace hit two 3-pointers and finished with 8 points.

Michael Lee scored 22 points and Nathaniel Huot had 21 points and 7 assists in Dawson-Boyd’s win over Lincoln HI on Saturday in the Section 3A North Sub-Section quarterfinals in Montevideo.

The Blackjacks, now 20-5, play Minneota in the sub-section semifinals on Thursday at Southwest Minnesota State.

Top-seed Dawson-Boyd built a 43-18 halftime lead and were never threatened by the eighth-seed Rebels.

Michael Lee hit 10 of 15 shots and he led the Blackjacks with 10 rebounds.

Joey Lee finished with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

MACCRAY improved to 20-5 overall and plays Canby in the sub-section semifinals on Thursday at Southwest Minnesota State.

The trio of MACCRAY scorers also combined for 22 rebounds, 12 assists, 5 steals and 6 blocked shots.

Nick Daugherty, Austin Bulthuis and Grant Hoekstra all scored 10 points for the Bluejays.
