Boys Basketball: Sauk Centre hands Morris/CA first loss in WC Conference

SAUK CENTRE — Morris/Chokio-Alberta had a 33-22 lead at half, but the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters fought back in second half to hand MCA their third loss of the season — first in the West Central North Conference — 60-52 Friday night.

Chandler Erickson and Austin Dierks paced the Tigers with 12 points each, Nic Vipond 10, and Logan Berg with 8. The loss snapped the Tigers’ seven-game winning streak.

The ’Streeters had a wide spread scoring load led by Nic Adams with 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Patrick Knoblauch scoring 13 points and dishing out 8 assists.

Zach Whitchurch put Litchfield in front 47-45 by making a layup with 22 seconds remaining, but the Wildcats came down the floor and got a three-pointer from Jacob Hurd 15 seconds later to steal the win.

A game-winning shot attempt from Litchfield (3-2, 9-4) was blocked by Waconia (5-1, 12-4).

Whitchurch paced the Dragons with 11 points while Dylan Koll followed with 10, Zach Kinny 9 and Joel Madsen 8. Whitchurch also had 5 rebounds and Kinny 5 assists and 3 steals.

Ortonville overcame a seven-point halftime deficit and outscored the Owls by 20 points in the second half of a conference game in Hancock on Friday.

James Nitz scored 22, Jade Hasslen his four 3-point shots and finished with 18 and Riley Thompson scored 16 for the Trojans.

Hancock’s Taylor Holleman finished with a team-high 20 points, 8 boards and 5 assists, and Jerrid Jepman scored all his 15 points from the 3-point line. Jordan Miller had 14 points and 6 rebounds.

ACGC snapped a two-game losing streak with a convincing home win over the Eagles on Friday night in Grove City.

Dylan Hoerchler led the Falcons with 22 points, 10 assists and 4 steals and Jacob Belgum, playing his second game after returning to the lineup after a knee injury, scored 20 points and had 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals.

The Eagles’ Dylan Erickson had 20 points and 8 rebounds.

The Falcons play next at Paynesville at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Benson made up a 10-point halftime deficit, 32-22, to tie the game 44-all with about 5:00 left.

Minnewaska went back up by four with 19 seconds showing with a free throw.

Aaron Ahrndt sank a 3-pointer to give him 24 points with 5 seconds left and make the score 57-56. Benson fouled with :04 left. After a made free throw, Benson got one more chance but couldn’t get a shot off after an inbound with :01 left.

Austin Lieser led the Lakers with 16 points. Jayden Beecher made a trio of 3-pointers for 12 points. Waska sank 7 of 13 from the ring.

Benson was just 4 of 20 dialing long distance. Colin Ose added 16 points, Daniel Lee 10 and Jacob Goff six, the only Braves to score.

Ahrndt’s all-around game included 8 rebounds, 8 steals and 3 assists.
