Olson netted 18 points in the first half and was instrumental in NLS going on a 16-4 run in the last 7 minutes of the half to take a 36-22 lead at halftime. The Wildcats never relinquished the lead and stayed in front by double digits for the remainder of the game.

Olson canned 5 three-pointers and also pocketed 7 steals and made 3 assists, while Shane Zylstra added 11 points and Ryan Vraa another 10.

Tyson Gislason supplied 7 rebounds and 4 blocks, and Vraa dished out a game-high 4 assists for NLS, which hosts Montevideo (2-0) on Tuesday.

Melrose (0-2) was paced by Nathan Goebel’s 15 points and Seth Noll’s game-high 8 rebounds.

The Wildcats’ first two games of the season — at Rocori and at Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa — were postponed due to the football team’s success at the state tournament.
