NEW LONDON — Senior forward Brett Olson nearly outscored Melrose by himself in the first half and went on to score a game-high 26 points Friday to help New London-Spicer stymie the Dutchmen 61-42 in its season opener.

Olson netted 18 points in the first half and was instrumental in NLS going on a 16-4 run in the last 7 minutes of the half to take a 36-22 lead at halftime. The Wildcats never relinquished the lead and stayed in front by double digits for the remainder of the game.
