MADISON -- Montevideo won its third straight West Central South Conference meet of the season by edging Benson/KMS by one stroke Friday.

Philip Ward's 39, a pair of 40s carded by Tyler Sachariason and Derek Bruns, and a 41 turned in by Grant Tufto added up to a 160 for Montevideo. Benson/KMS got three 40s from Nathan Hawley, Sam Peterson and Zach Maurer, and a 41 from Brody Gimberlin.

The win gives Montevideo a one-point lead over Benson/KMS in the conference standings with just one meet remaining, Monday at Benson. Only Montevideo and Benson/KMS can win the conference title.

Medalist Jordan Kolden and Morris/Chokio-Alberta teammate Jacob Zosel finished 1-2 Friday. Taylor Larson of Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City tied Ward for third.

Dawson-Boyd won the conference tournament in convincing fashion after having Easton Popma place second, Aaron Lange tie for third, Ryan Sumner come in fifth and Spencer Erickson finishing sixth. Plus, Jon Tensen and Christian Thoen, the Blackjacks' No. 5 and No. 6 golfers, finished seventh and in a tie for 14th, respectively.

The Blackjacks' top four scores totaled 328, 14 strokes less than runner-up Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, which had Hudson VanDrunen claim medalist honors with a four-over 76.

Dean Schroeder tied for 17th to pace MACCRAY, which tied for seventh with Lakeview.
