Boys Golf: NLS wins Benson/KMS Invite

BENSON -- New London-Spicer won the team championship and Ortonville's Jade Hasslen earned medalist honors at the Benson/KMS Boys Invitational on Wednesday at the Benson Golf Course.
The Wildcats posted a 325 to edge Benson/KMS by six strokes. Minnewaska was a close third, finishing at 335.
Hasslen and Joey Dreier of New London-Spicer tied for low score, both carding 74s, but Hasslen broke the tie by posting the best scored on the courses most difficult handicap hole.
Montevideo's Philip Ward was a stroke off Hasslen's and Dreier's pace, shooting 75.
Benson/KMS's Sam Peterson shot 77 for fourth place. Dawson-Boyd's Easten Popma and Minnewaska's Brett Buckingham both carded 80s, and Morris/Chokio-Alberta's Jordan Kolden finished in sixth place with an 81.
New London-Spicer's Reid Johnson finished tied for seventh with Yellow Medicine East's Mitchell McCosh, both carding 82, and Ortonville's James Nitz was a stroke back at 83. Minnewaska's Dylan Buckingham rounded out the top 10 with an 84.

Some events coming up include a West Central South Conference meet today in Granite Falls and a West Central North Conference meet next Thursday in Melrose.
