SAUK RAPIDS — The Willmar boys golf team placed third in the final Central Lakes Conference meet of the season on Wednesday at the Wapicada Golf Club to lock down second place overall behind Alexandria.

The Cardinals shot 331 on Wednesday, six strokes behind Alexandria, two strokes behind second-place Sartell and two strokes ahead of fourth-place Fergus Falls.

The Cardinals finished with 28 points, four behind conference champion Alexandria. St. Cloud Tech, which finished sixth on Wednesday, placed third overall, just one point behind Willmar.

Willmar plays in the Brainerd Invitational at 8:30 a.m. today and then opens section tournament play on June 3 at GreyStone Golf Club in Sauk Centre.

On Wednesday, Willmar’s Tony Kallevig and Hunter Schneider tied for third shooting 80. Alexandria’s Nick Brunzell was medalist with a 75.

Willmar’s Levi Hauser, who shot 84 on Wednesday, and Kallevig earned all-CLC honors. Hunter Mottiger, Schneider and Cody Magnuson were all-conference honorable mention.

Joey Dreier of New London-Spicer shot 70, tying for medalist at Baker National on Monday in the final conference clash. Orono wrapped up the title shooting 306 on its home 18. Litchfield fired 319 for third while the NLS Wildcats were fourth with a 326.

The Dragons finished second in the final standings, 35 strokes behind Orono. NLS ended up fourth.

On the season, the top three players by total strokes in the 11-team loop are: Jordan Peters, Delano, 351; Matt Rachey, Waconia, 359; Dreier, NLS, 368. From Litchfield, Joey Polingo tied for sixth (376).
