Boys Golf: Willmar 9th in 20-team invite
BRAINERD -- Willmar finished in a tie for ninth place Wednesday at a modified Brainerd Invitational on The Pines Golf Course at Grand View Lodge.
Heavy snow forced the event to be trimmed down to nine holes and team scores would be based on how many strokes over par each player was. Edina won the 20-school invite by finishing 12 shots over par. The Cardinals and Blaine were both 21-over.
Cody Magnuson paced Willmar by finishing 2-over on his nine holes played. Drew Lynch of Stillwater won medalist honors at 1-over and not everyone played the same holes. Tony Kallevig and Matt Suedebek both finished 6-over and Hunter Schneider was 7-over.
According to Willmar coach Dave Ellwood the snow was so heavy at times that it would stick to the ball while a player would putt.
