Boys hockey: Alexandria blows out Cardinals 12-0

ALEXANDRIA — The Alexandria boys hockey team stormed out to a huge lead and kept up the assault, downing Willmar 12-0 on Thursday.
Willmar fell to 3-3-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the Central Lakes Conference. The Cards have been outscored 19-3 in their last two games.
Alexandria improved to 3-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the CLC.
“It was one of those bad nights,” Willmar head coach Dan Tollefson said. “We couldn’t get anything going.”
Alexandria scored six first-period goals and Willmar had no answer, offensively or defensively.
Tollefson said Alexandria players probably have long memories, which didn’t help.
“They’re a good team, no question about it,” Tollefson said. “They probably still upset that we beat them in the playoffs last year (a 4-3 Willmar win in Section 6A).”
Willmar plays next at Marshall at 3 p.m Saturday.
