Boys Hockey: Alexandria boys pound Willmar
Tribune Staff Report
WILLMAR -- The Willmar boys hockey team came out playing sluggishly against Alexandria and lost 7-3 on Thursday night at Cardinal Arena.
Alexandria scored the game's first four goals, then added three more late in the second period after Willmar cut the deficit to two to ice the Central Lakes Conference game.
"They were a tough team for us tonight," said Willmar head coach Dan Tollefson. "(The teams) usually play pretty close games but we just couldn't get anything going tonight."
Charlie Wensman scored the hat trick and had an assist for Alexandria, and teammates Johnny Domine, Tom Schmidt and Garrett Skinner all scored a goal and had three assists.
Willmar's Graham Dahl scored two goals and Ryan Woljer scored his first varsity goal.
The game was a big one in terms of Section 6A seedings, Tollefson said.
Several area teams are fighting for the four and five seeds in the section, and "the next two weeks will be important," Tollefson said.
Willmar has lost six of its last seven, and the Cardinals hope to break the skid at Wadena tonight.
