WILLMAR — Zech Streed, Hunter Schneider and Trey Tollefson all scored two goals in Willmar’s 9-2 thumping of Wadena-Deer Creek on Saturday at the Civic Center.

Wadena-Deer Creek took a lead in the first period but Streed and Schneider scored two minutes apart, and the the Cardinals then scored five second-period goals — three on power plays — to put the game out of reach.

Willmar outshot WDC 50-10.

Hunter Mottinger, Evan VanDenEinde and Joey Lee also scored goals for the Cardinals. Schneider collected three assists, Streed and Mottinger assisted on two and Cole Hagen, Cole Block, Tollefson, Preston Peterson and Ryan Woltjer all picked up assists.

Cards’ goalie Levi Goosmann stopped eight shots for the victory.

Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato hung tough with Luverne, despite being outshot three-to-one, but fell 4-2 on Saturday.

L/DC was outshot 37-9 through two periods but still trailed just 1-0, and after Luverne scored first in the third period, L/DC’s Aaron Haataja and Mike Spreiter scored goals on assists from the other to tie the game 2-2.

But Luverne’s Toby Sengvonggxay scored his second goal of the game on the power play at 13:37, and Skyler Wenninger cemented the game with an empty net goal three minutes later.

The MBA Storm’s offense produced well but its defense fell flat in a 10-6 loss to Windom Area on Saturday.

MBA’s Mac Beyer notched the hat trick and Brody Gimberlin scored twice but the Storm defense surrenderd 49 shots and goalie Kyle Kennedy was able to turn back just 39 of them.

Brody Gimberlin’s goal at 2:20 of the second period cut Windom’s lead to 4-2 but Travis Janssen scored consecutive unassisted goals to put Windom back in control.

Beyer also assisted on a goal and Tanner Picht assisted on two goals. Corey Goff had the Storm’s other assist.
