Boys Hockey: SC Tech skates past Willmar
ST. CLOUD -- The Willmar Cardinals lost their second straight, bowing to St. Cloud Tech 6-4 at the spacious National Hockey Center on Thursday.
The Cardinals (3-2, 8-3) led 2-1 midway through the second period on Stephen Reynold's second goal of the season, a powerplay production with linemates James Johnston and Landon Peterson assisting.
But the Tigers, more accustomed to the larger Olympic sheet, seized the upper hand and scored five consecutive goals.
It was 6-2 three minutes into the third frame. The Cardinals kept working and that produced goals by Paul Schrupp and Grant Schow, the later with five seconds left.
Liam Johnston's 12th goal of the season tied the score 1-1 a minute into the second period.
The Tigers (4-2, 9-3) outshot Willmar 45-13, especially peppering the Cardinal goalie Keifer Dahle during six powerplays.
