Boys swimming & diving: Fusion dunk Cards

WILLMAR — Michael McLain and Connor Haugen both won two races and were part of a winning relay but the Cardinals had little else to cheer about as the Melrose/Sauk Centre Fusion won a non-conference meet 106-80 on Thursday in the WHS pool.
McLain won the 100 and 200 freestyle races and joined Haugen on Willmar’s winning 200 medley relay team. Haugen placed first in the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.
The Cardinals’ Josh Kelly placed first in the 100 breaststroke.
Willmar’s Trent Flegel placed second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 200 freestyle and he also swam on two second-place relay teams.
Kelly and A.J. Derouin swan on the victorious 200 medley team and Derouin was part of Willmar’s 400 freestyle relay team that placed second. Derouin also placed second in the 200 individual medley.
