Boys swimming & diving: Montevideo sinks Willmar

WILLMAR — The Montevideo Thunder Hawks won the first three events and went on to submerge the Willmar Cardinals 100-86 on Thursday.

The Thunder Hawks went on to win 8 of the 11 swimming events, plus diving.

Jack Speath led off the winning 200-medley relay which won by 9 seconds over the Willmar top unit. The Hawks’ senior would go on to take the 100 butterfly by three seconds over Trent Flegel and later claimed the 100 backstroke in 56.96, more than 10 seconds up on Nash Van Klompenburg.

The Cardinals wins came from Flegel in the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.35 and the 200-free relay quartet of Chris Muldrow, Flegel, Brandon Engelkes and Teman Miller. Also taking first was the 400-free relay foursome of Darren Orsten, Nash Van Kompenburg, Carter Shuldes and McCoy Van Kompenburg.

Other winners for Monte were Andrew Peters in the 200 free, Kane Glomstad in the 200 individual medley, Donny Albers in diving, Conner Hein in the 100 free and Daylen Mitlyn in the 500 free.
