WILLMAR -- The Sartell Sabres outstroked Willmar in the season and conference opener 104-79 on Thursday in the Cardinals pool.

"We swam hard and well but it's clear we're not in shape yet," said Willmar coach Carl Shuldes.

Willmar's medley relay finished a fraction behind the Sabres but the time of 1:46.92 is already near the state cut. Connor Haugen, Josh Kelly, Ben Fulestaed and Michael McLain made up the quartet.

The diving was excellent. Sartell's Tanner Nordlund scored 263 points and Willmar's Bennet Woltjer 231.

"Those are two of the top divers in Class A," commented Shuldes.

Nick Aaker in the 200 free, Ben Fuglestad in the fly and Michael McLain in the back picked up wins.

Sartell, coached by Willmar native Jason Anderson, is one of the top teams again this season in the CLC.
