Boys Tennis: Eden Prairie ousts Cards
Tribune Staff Reports
ST. PETER -- Willmar got its lone point when Eden Prairie's No. 1 singles player left with an injury, and the Eagles beat the Cardinals 6-1 on Tuesday in the opening round of the Section 2AA Final Four.
Willmar's Preston Peterson was 1-6, 4-2 when Eden Prairie's David Zhou retired due to an upper arm injury.
"It was a little overwhelming," Willmar coach Jim Anderson said. "We have not seen this kind of pace and heavy topspin against any of the other teams we've played against."
While the team is done with postseason play, the Cardinals will start the individual tournament 9 a.m. Saturday at Gustavus.
Preston Peterson at No. 1 and Jackson Burton at No. 2 will be going for singles, and the top teams of Shane Christensen/Sam Murphy and Mitch Johannes/Tate Hovland will compete in doubles.
