Brainerd foils Willmar
WILLMAR -- The Willmar softball team was no-hit through the first six innings and fell to Central Lakes Conference rival Brainerd 3-0 Thursday.
The Warriors' Niki Anderson struck out 13 Cardinal batters and allowed just two hits, both in the seventh inning.
Willmar had only one runner in the first six innings, that coming on an error in the third.
"It was our worst game offensively, but we were good defensively," said Willmar coach Brent Pederson. "I thought if we put the ball into play, we would do well."
Brainerd (11-3, 14-4), which beat Willmar 3-2 April 14, scored twice in the second on a Dani Thiesse triple and a Alisha Haag double.
Sara Kallhoff led off the seventh with a hit for the Cardinals, then Heather Horning had a two-out single.
Hanna Pederson went the distance in the loss. She allowed three runs on eight hits, struck out eight and walked two.
