Utilities Commission to consult with attorney at Monday meeting

WILLMAR -- The Willmar Municipal Utilities Commission will consult with its attorney Monday regarding pending litigation by fired Municipal Utilities General Manager Bruce Gomm.

The commission meets in regular session at 11:45 a.m. Monday in the Municipal Utilities auditorium, 700 Litchfield Ave. S. in Willmar, and the advance meeting agenda indicates the commissioners' last item of business will be a closed session with their attorney -- allowed under the attorney-client privilege exemption to the Open Meeting Law.

Gomm was fired last month after a misconduct investigation, and earlier this month he filed a lawsuit alleging discrimination and breach of contract.

Other items on Monday's agenda for the Municipal Utilities Commission meeting include the investment report and presentation of the 2011 audit report and financial statements. The interim co-managers' report will include recognition of Commissioner Doug Lindblad and city attorney Rich Ronning for their service to the utilities.

Lindblad had planned to end his service on the Municipal Utilities Commission at the end of last year but agreed to serve through March of this year while the commission was undertaking the investigation of Gomm.

Ronning is retiring as city attorney. The city attorney also serves the Municipal Utilities Commission.
