STARBUCK -- The "Buckthorn Bash'' at Glacial Lakes State Park gets underway at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday at the park's southeast picnic area. A guided hike of the prairie will be offered. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase at the picnic area.
Events through the day will include crafts for kids, geocaching demonstrations, a kick-the-tires implement fair, and an opportunity to visit with area resource specialists about prairies, buckthorn control and more.
A special panel discussion featuring biofuels experts is also scheduled along with tours of the new camper cabin donated by the Friends of Glacial Lakes.
The celebration will conclude with a 3 p.m. ceremonial cutting of the last buckthorn and celebratory bonfire.
The event is free and open to the public but a daily or annual Minnesota State Park vehicle permit is required to enter the park.
