According to a news release from Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin, the Grove City, Cosmos, Litchfield and Atwater fire departments were paged around 8 p.m. Monday. A passing motorist reported the blaze after noticing flames coming through the roof of the building.

Firefighters arrived to find a large storage building engulfed in flames in the middle section of the building. The fire departments were able to put out the fire and it was determined the fire was started by a bearing that went out on the belt conveyer used for moving wood chips inside the building.

The fire rekindled around 3:30 a.m. this morning and the Grove City, Litchfield, and Atwater Fire departments responded a second time and extinguished the fire. The estimated loss of this fire is around $100,000 for the building, $30,000 for wood product and approximately $15,000 for the belt conveyer. Total loss of the fire is around $145,000.
