ATWATER - Officials at the Bushmills Ethanol Inc. plant of Atwater are investigating the cause of a fire Saturday morning on the small flare pipe used to burn volatile fumes evacuated from empty tanker trucks

being loaded with the corn-based fuel.

Bushmills General Manager Erik Osmon said the incident happened just

before 7 a.m. Area fire departments including firefighters from

Willmar and Atwater were dispatched and extinguished the fire, which

was confined to the small flare pipe located near the ethanol load-out

racks. Firefighters were on the scene for a couple of hours, he said.

Osmon said there were no injuries. Natural gas service to the plant

and plant operations were shut down during the fire; however, corn

deliveries were still being accepted. Plant operations later resumed.

Osmon said load-out of ethanol will be halted until the flare pipe is repaired.
