Troy Barrick is administrator at Rice Care Center

WILLMAR -- Rice Memorial Hospital has selected Troy Barrick as new administrator of Rice Care Center in Willmar. He will begin the new position on Oct. 26.

"There were many good candidates to choose from and Troy rose to the top of the list,'' said Bill Fenske, chief financial officer. "He comes to Rice with numerous long-term care experiences.''

"I look forward to joining the Rice organization,'' said Barrick. As administrator, Barrick will provide administrative direction and leadership, and manage the center's internal operations.

Barrick had served since April as administrator of Clara City Care Center, a 71-bed facility. He was executive director of St. Anthony Health Center, a 150-bed facility, from 2007 to 2009. Before that, he worked in various leadership positions at Extendicare Health Services, as well as Volunteers of America National Services. He was executive director at Beverly Health Care in Delano from 2000 to 2002.

He earned a bachelor of business and health administration degree from the University of South Dakota. He completed the Minnesota Health and Housing Alliance (now known as Aging Services of Minnesota) Sales and Marketing Training program, and is a licensed nursing home administrator in Minnesota and South Dakota.

Dana Olson joins Spicer realty firm

SPICER -- Dana Olson is joining the Olson & Olson Real Estate team as marketing and listing coordinator. She is a licensed Realtor who previously worked with Edina Realty in Plymouth. She has more than six years of real estate experience. She previously worked for Qwest Communications in Minneapolis as a marketing director for nine years.

She has a degree from St. Cloud State University in international business and Spanish. Matt and Carolyn Olson said they and the Spicer office look forward to her joining the staff.

Local artists have CDs at Dunlavy's

WILLMAR -- Dunlavy's General Store, 428 Litchfield Ave. S.W., announces it has CDs produced by local artists Bradley Joseph (Bradley Trochlil), intimate and upbeat contemporary piano music, and the Kingery Family, bluegrass gospel music.

Teri Feist joins Hair Designs

WILLMAR -- Teri Feist has joined Hair Designs, privately owned by Chris Rieckman, at 1809 First St. S. in Willmar. Feist has been in the industry for 10 years and specializes in color, high fashion designer cuts, facial waxing and nails. She was born and raised in New Jersey, has lived in the Midwest for 16 years and has worked for a variety of salons. She lives in New London with her husband and two children.

Kingman isnew WCI accounting director

WILLMAR -- West Central Industries JobLink announces that Beverly Kingman has been hired as new accounting director. Before joining WCI, she was business manager at Green Lake Lutheran Ministries for 18 years. She brings extensive background in accounting to the position. She lives in New London with her husband, Jim, and two children.

WCI of Hutchinson and Willmar is a nonprofit organization that provides work skills training and job placement services to over 400 people with disabilities.


Lenora Churchill of Christianson & Associates, PLLP of Willmar has passed the CPA exam. She started as a staff accountant at Christianson & Associates in 2008 and works in the audit department. She graduated from Minnesota State University Mankato with a degree in accounting and finance in 2008.

Michelle Hanson, a payroll specialist with Conway, Deuth & Schmiesing, PLLP, of Willmar has been awarded her certified payroll professional designation. The designation, awarded by the American Payroll Association, signifies that she has achieved a significant level of proficiency and detailed knowledge of payroll taxation, tax reporting, legislative and regulatory requirements, MIS, human resources, benefits and accounting as related to the payroll environment. The designation was awarded for completing a comprehensive four-hour exam. She joined the staff in September 2007 and brought eight years of payroll and accounting experience to CDS. She studied accounting at Central Lakes College in Brainerd. She and her husband and three children live in Willmar.

BusinessWare Solutions of Hutchinson, with offices in Willmar and two other cities, has received the Hewlett Packard Public Sector Elite Partner designation. The designation is reserved for the most outstanding partners nationwide and requires meeting an annual sales volume and maintaining a number of Hewlett Packard certified engineers. BusinessWare Solutions has also received the Hewlett Packard Office Printing Solutions Elite designation and the Hewlett Packard Small and Medium Business Elite designation.


Willmar Diabetes Center has received a three-year re-accreditation for its education program by the American Association of Diabetes Educators for compliance with national standards for diabetes self-management education. The center is managed by Diabetes Clinical Nurse Specialist Lisa Bolle, who keeps detailed records as evidence of continual implementation of national standards and requirements for maintaining accreditation. Diabetes education, also known as diabetes self-management training, is a collaborative process through which people with diabetes, or who are at risk for diabetes, gain knowledge and skills to modify behavior and successfully self-manage the disease and related conditions.

Going Places

Dr. Jefferson Brand, who is fellowship trained in sports medicine, and Mike Doyle, practice administrator, both of Heartland Orthopedic Specialists of Alexandria and Willmar, and Emily Brand, a second-year medical student at the University of Louisville, will present an abstract entitled "Are Electronic Medical Record Systems Paperless'' at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, March 9-13, 2010, in New Orleans.
