Elite Nail and Spa opens in Willmar

WILLMAR -- Amy and Tai Nguyen have opened Elite Nail and Spa, 2319 First St. S. in Willmar. They specialize in acrylics, luxury pedicures for men and women, gel professional products, and pink and white full sets.


They are taking appointments at 320-222-5757 and walk-ins also are welcome. This is the second salon the couple has opened. The first was in Annandale. They went to beauty school in Brooklyn Park and live in St. Cloud with their two daughters.

Nibbe opens Phat Pheasant

ATWATER -- Michael Nibbe has opened Phat Pheasant Pasta and Brew at 204 Atlantic Ave. W. in Atwater. The restaurant is family-owned and the two chefs have more than 50 years of experience between them.

The restaurant uses Stanislaus tomato products, fresh basil, garlic and other spices, hand-crushed whole tomatoes and corn-fed Angus, among other ingredients.

The restaurant offers a 4,000-square-foot banquet room for wedding receptions, parties and other events, and has free Wi-Fi service available. For more information, call 320-974-3330.

Tom Lippert joins United FCS

WILLMAR -- Tom Lippert has joined United FCS as a financial analyst in the Willmar office. As part of the association's underwriting function, the financial analyst analyzes applications for new or renewed loans and is an integral part of the credit delivery process serving the marketplace.

Lippert received his bachelor's degree in finance and economics with a business administration minor from Minnesota State University-Mankato. He grew up in the local area and graduated from Renville County West High School.

United FCS is a member of the Farm Credit System, a nationwide network of banks and retail lending associations chartered to support the borrowing needs of U.S. agriculture and the nation's rural economy. United FCS has 12 branch offices in 22 counties in west central Minnesota and north central Wisconsin


* Annette R. Benson, certified public accountant and partner at Conway, Deuth and Schmiesing of Willmar, has been awarded her certified fraud examiners designation. To receive the designation, Benson met a stringent set of criteria and passed a rigorous exam administered by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. She also met the association's character, experience, and education requirements and demonstrated knowledge in fraudulent financial transactions, criminology and ethics, legal elements of fraud and fraud investigation. Certified fraud examiners have the ability to identify an organization's vulnerability to fraud and to advise clients on improving fraud prevention and deterrence measures.

* Travis W. Steffensen of Westberg Eischens of Willmar, has successfully completed the certification process with the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts and has earned the designation of certified valuation analyst. Requirements to earn the designation include being a licensed certified public accountant, completing the association's training program and successfully completing the comprehensive examination. Business valuations are most commonly required in conjunction with the purchase or sale of a business, succession planning, buy or sell agreements, charitable contributions, and estate and gift taxes.


The Minnesota Medical Association recently honored Dr. Richard Horecka with the Community Service award. The award recognizes members who are actively engaged in the practice of medicine and have an outstanding record of community service. Horecka is a family medicine physician with Affiliated Community Medical Centers in Benson. He received the award for his economic development work for the city of Benson.

Horecka joined the city's Economic Development Commission in 1987 and has been active in the organization's effort to bring jobs to the area. He also has personally financed businesses in Benson, including a hotel and meeting center, and worked to preserve the local movie theater.
