Olson expands ACO Music Studio

SPICER -- Andrea Olson announces she is expanding her list of services at ACO Music Studio at its new facility, 9518 North Shore Dr., Spicer. In addition to piano and voice lessons, the studio offers violin, guitar, saxophone and kindermusik classes. ACO also has a recording studio.


For those who are unfamiliar with kindermusik, the studio is offering a week of free kindermusik demo classes Aug. 17-21.

Olson studied piano performance at the Biola University Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles and has been teaching private lessons for the past six years.

MnDOT engineer Trooien to retire

WILLMAR -- Dave Trooien, district engineer with the Minnesota Department of Transportation District 8 office in Willmar, will retire Friday after 44 years of state service.

Trooien has served as the District 8 district engineer since November 1991. The district is responsible for all trunk highways and transportation activities and has approximately 200 employees in the 12-county area of southwestern Minnesota. The district has headquarters in Willmar and regional offices in Hutchinson and Marshall.

Before he joined District 8, Trooien served eight years as area maintenance engineer in the MnDOT St. Cloud office, and held the positions of project engineer, resident engineer and bridge engineer in the Mankato office. Also, he served one year in the bridge design office in St. Paul.

Trooien earned his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from South Dakota State University in Brookings. He and his wife, Sandra, are natives of southwestern Minnesota. Sandra is a social worker in the Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg School District. They have two sons and two grandchildren.

Business Award

* Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield has received an award from the Minnesota Health Strategy and Communications Network's annual Beacon Awards competition.

The hospital was singled out for the Captain's Award for its new brand campaign. The campaign was developed by the hospital's education department and the Russell Herder advertising agency of Minneapolis.

Altogether, 17 projects at hospitals across Minnesota were recognized for excellence in communication.
