* Rice Memorial Hospital is among 10 Minnesota hospitals earning a HealthGrades award for providing an outstanding patient experience.
HealthGrades, a health care ratings organization, released the list of 2009-2010 Outstanding Patient Experience award winners this month.
Winners were selected on the basis of the federal Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey. The 27-question survey queries patients in a variety of categories, including physician and nurse communication with the patient, responsiveness of hospital staff, cleanliness and quietness of the facility, medication information conveyed to the patient and post-discharge care instructions.
* Music instructor Darcy Lease-Gubrud and chemistry instructor Ron Haraldson, both at the Willmar campus of Ridgewater College, are two of 29 instructors in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System to be named as outstanding educators by the MnSCU Board of Trustees. Nominations were made by students, faculty peers or staff and evaluated at the state level. Dr. Linda Baer, MnSCU vice chancellor for academic affairs, said the awards reflect "the exceptional skill and commitment that you have demonstrated in teaching, your continuous professional development, and your service to students, college, profession and the system."
