WILLMAR -- The American Dairy Association of Kandiyohi County seeks candidates for the 2011 dairy princess program. Dairy princesses serve as goodwill ambassadors for the dairy industry by appearing at various promotional events, speaking to consumers and the news media, and participate in parades throughout the county. The annual Kandiyohi County Dairy Princess Banquet and Coronation will be at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Kandi Entertainment Center in Willmar. The dairy princess contest is a program of the dairy promotion checkoff, which works to increase demand for dairy products.
A candidate must be a high school graduate by July 1, 2011, and not yet 24 years old by that date. She or her parents or legal guardians must be actively engaged in the production of milk for sale to a licensed plant during the current year. A candidate also qualifies if she or her parents or guardians are employed on a dairy farm in a dairy-related capacity.
The new princesses are eligible to attend a statewide training seminar in May and may apply to be considered as a finalist for the Princess Kay of the Milky Way title.
At all levels of competition, contestants are judged on their communication skills, personality, enthusiasm for the dairy promotion and general knowledge of the dairy industry.
