Carl Siewert Nov. 28, 1919 - Aug. 24, 2009
MONTEVIDEO -- Carl Bornholdt Siewert, 89, of rural Montevideo died Monday at his home.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Montevideo. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
He was born Nov. 28, 1919, in Billings, Mont., to Max and Winnifred (Bornholdt) Siewert. He grew up in Montana, moved to Twin Brooks, S.D., and graduated from Milbank High School in 1937. He attended Mankato State Teachers College before entering the Army Air Force during World War II. He was stationed at Dayton, Ohio.
He married Polly Brown on June 29, 1946, in Springfield, Ohio. They lived and farmed near Marvin, S.D., lived in Springfield, Ohio, for a number of years, and Twin Brooks, S.D., where they also farmed before moving to rural Montevideo in 1970. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion posts in Montevideo.
He is survived by six children: Carl Joe (and Lynette) Siewert of Ortonville, Mary Ann Nolting of Ortonville, Kieth (and Julie) Siewert of Renville, Paulette (and Dennis) Anderson of Montevideo, Linda (and Richard) Abernathy of Webster, S.D., and Carol (and Ervin) Kuebler of St. Cloud; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a brother: Roy (and Roberta) Thiele of Watertown, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2002; son-in-law: Donald Nolting; one grandson; two great-grandsons; one brother; and one sister.
