THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Carlton Josef Ellison, 90, of Thief River Falls, died Tuesday at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Moorhead. Burial will be at North LaMoure Cemetery, south of Valley City, N.D.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to service at the church.
He was born Oct. 13, 1918, in Valley City, N.D., to Christ and Cora (Smedshammer) Ellison. He grew up and graduated from Verona High School in 1936. He attended Wahpeton State School of Science for printing. He worked for the Frazee Times in Frazee and the Divide County Journal in Crosby, N.D.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and deployed to Europe in 1944 and ended up working as a teletype technician at the embassy in Moscow. He was discharged in 1946.
He married Leota Henrikson in 1947. He worked at the Foster County Independent of Carrington, N.D. and, from 1971 to 1983, at a commercial printing plant in Willmar. They retired to Henning and moved to Moorhead in 1992.
He is survived by his sons: Clair (and Suzy) Ellison of Thief River Falls and Richard (and Kathy) Ellison of Devils Lake, N.D.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one sister: Doris Dunn of Rocklin, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his wife on May 26, one grandson and one sister.
