Carol Ann Mitchell Dec. 5, 1941 - July 29, 2013
SPICER - Carol Ann Mitchell age 71, of Spicer died on Monday, July 29, 2013, at her home in rural Spicer. Her funeral service will be held 11:00 am on Friday, August 2, 2013, at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5-8:30 pm on Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Carol Ann Mitchell was born December 5, 1941, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of William E. and Esther (Lohn) Railson. She grew up on the family farm in rural New London where she received her primary school education at a small country school near her home. She went on to graduate from New London High School with the class of 1959. After high school Carol moved to Minneapolis where she worked in the vault at First National Bank.
On October 26, 1963, Carol was united in marriage to Raymond Mitchell in Minneapolis. This union was blessed with a son and a daughter. The family made their home in the Minneapolis Metro. Carol continued to work for First National Bank until her son, Randy was born. She then became a full time mother until her daughter, Stacy started school. Carol then went back to work as a bookkeeper in the Banking and Travel Industry, spending many years working at Carlson Travel Company. In 2004, Carol retired from full time work at the age of 63, she then worked part time for the City of New Hope. In 2010 she and Ray moved to their retirement home in the Lake Andrew Township.
Carol was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake. She was very active there serving on many boards and volunteering when she had the opportunity to. Carol had a passion for cooking; she loved to cook and bake for loved ones and was often asked for her recipes. She also loved to work in her flower garden. Carol was a caring and selfless woman. She loved spending time with her family and her granddaughter Chloe was the light of her life.
Carol Ann Mitchell died on Monday, July 29, 2013, at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 49 years Raymond; children, Randall Mitchell of New Hope, and Stacy (Ken) Nietfeld of Lino Lakes; granddaughter, Chloe Nietfeld; sibling, Ardis Leaf of Willmar, and Kendall (Sherlet) Railson of New London; and many nieces and nephews.
