RENVILLE - Carol Mae Potter, age 88, of Renville, died Thursday, January 24, 2013, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 28, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Renville. The Rev. Dean Nosek will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Renville. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service in the church in Renville. Arrangements with Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Renville, Minnesota.

Carol Mae Potter was born on April 12, 1924, in Henryville Township, Renville County to Clarence S. and Emma O. (Haug) Brandt. She was baptized on May 17, 1924, and later confirmed on June 5, 1938, in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Emmett Township. Carol graduated from Danube High School and then went to work at the Redwood Falls Hospital. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Potter on March 7, 1948, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmett Township. They lived in Redwood Falls for one year and then moved to Mankato where they resided for five years. They then moved to the Brandt family farm in Henryville Township, south of Danube and farmed there until retiring in 1992. It was in 1992, a tornado destroyed their home and farm site, so at this time they moved into Renville. Carol was active on the farm helping with chores and tending to her vegetable garden. She also loved to crochet, embroider, and was a wonderful cook. Her cinnamon rolls and apple pies were a favorite of many. Carol’s children and grandchildren were very important to her, and she had a special relationship with each of them. She was a member of the Renville United Methodist Church and UMW.

Survivors include her children: Joyce (and Ron) Kvaas of Shoreview, Dean (and Kristi) Potter of Litchfield, Keith (and Brygida) Potter of Olivia, and Kaye (and Robert) Wright of St. James; ten grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren; her brother, Roger (and Joanne) Brandt of Dayton, OH; her sister-in-law Ramona Potter of Redwood Falls, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her parents, her infant twin sister Joyce, her brother Forest Brandt, her brothers-in-law: Danny Potter, Willard Lau, Ken Keil; and her sisters-in-law: Alice Brandt, Betty Brandt, Marilynn Lau, and Ethel Keil.
