Cattlemen's Tour set for July 13
MORRIS -- The West Central Cattlemen welcome beef producers, agri-businessmen, and consumers to the annual Minnesota State Cattlemen's Summer Tour and Trade Show. The tour spotlights innovations in marketing, management and technology.
The July 13 tour is headquartered at the Stevens County Fairgrounds in Morris. Registration runs from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and the first tour bus leaves at 7 a.m. and buses leave every 15 minutes after that. A continental breakfast will be available before the tour.
The south tour includes Nohl Livestock, a beef feedlot and farrow-to-finish hog operation that produces locally grown, locally marketed Wurst Machers beef and pork; CR Koehl Beef, with a 1,200-head monoslope and a 360-head slatted barn feedlot; Wulf Limousin/Wulf Cattle Co. with an 800-head registered Limousin seedstock operation and 4,000-head open lot feedlot; and West River Dairy, a 6,000-head dairy with an 80-cow carousel milking parlor, methane digester and separated solids bedding.
The north tour includes Westmor Industries, which manufactures tanks, vessels and fluid-handling equipment for the refined fuel, LP, aviation and CO2 industries; Bonanza Bean, which is a dried kidney bean packaging facility for locally grown beans; Kirwin Farms, a 50-head cow-calf operation and Bobcat dealer; and a stop at the West Central Research and Outreach Center with research in horticulture, wind turbine/renewable energy/anhydrous ammonia production and pasture management.
The cost of the tour is $30 per person when registering prior to July 1, $35 at the door for adults and $15 for students. Also included is the Beef Industry Summer Trade Show, featuring agri-businesses and agencies throughout the state.
