PARK RAPIDS, Minn. - Felony charges have been dropped against a high school teacher who said he accidentally brought a rifle to school in his car in Hubbard County.

The former Park Rapids shop teacher, 38-year-old Scott Eischens, is an Army captain who will be deployed to Afghanistan next month.

Hubbard County Attorney Don Dearstyne says a charge of possessing a deadly weapon on school property has been dropped because of the lack of evidence that shows criminal intent and because of Eischens' military commitment.

KSAX-TV says the uncased rifle was found in Eischens' car Nov. 15. He has since resigned after 12 years with the school district.

The felony charge carries a maximum two years in prison upon conviction.
