Charges expected today in death of little girl

OLIVIA -- Sergio Turrubiates Jr., 19, of Olivia, is expected to be charged today in connection to the death last week of a 19-month-old Olivia girl.

According to a news release from Renville County Attorney David Torgelson, charges against Turrubiates are expected to be filed this morning in Renville County District Court.

Turrubiates is expected to appear in court at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon.

The child, Tiana Moore, died Friday after being airlifted to Children's Hospital in St. Paul.

Her injuries were determined to be "significant" after she was transported by ambulance around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to Renville County Hospital.

Turrubiates was arrested after the Olivia Police Department received a 911 call that a child was unresponsive.

He is currently being held in the Renville County Jail.

The Minnesota Attorney General's office is assisting the Renville County Attorney's office with the case.
