Charlene Gunnarson Dec. 30, 1939 - May 24, 2009

HERMANTOWN -- Charlene L. Gunnarson, 69, of Hermantown, formerly of Willmar, died Sunday at her home.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Hermantown.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home. Memorials to American Cancer Society and St. Luke's Hospice, in care of the family, are preferred.

She was born Dec. 30, 1939, in Duluth to Arthur B. and Edith V. (Norell) Nylander. She graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1957.

She married Marvin D. Gunnarson on March 15, 1958. Over the years she worked at the Duluth Builders Exchange, Northern States Supply in Willmar, was co-owner of Annie's Pizza in Willmar and secretary for American Family Insurance in both Willmar and Cloquet.

She was involved in Eastern Star, church activities, Girl Scouts, American Cancer Society Relay for Life-Duluth Community and a volunteer worker at SOAR Career Solutions. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Cloquet and recently attended Grace Lutheran Church in Hermantown.

She is survived by her son: Michael (and Sandy) Gunnarson of Barnum; daughters: Colleen (and Mark) Thompson of Willmar, Debra (and Jeff) Holleman of Duluth, Sandra (and Emmett) Kirby of Hillsboro, Ore., and Gail (and David) Wahlberg of Hermantown; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; brothers: George (and Sharon) Nylander of Duluth and Ronald (and Pam) Nylander of Hermantown; and a sister: Kathleen (and Loren) Kesty of Hermantown.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and stepfather: Felix Burns.
