Charlene Stevens to attend first City Council meeting
WILLMAR -- Charlene Stevens will attend her first Willmar City Council meeting as the new city administrator when the council meets at 7 p.m. Monday in the chambers at the Municipal Utilities Building.
The council approved a contract with Stevens on May 27 after interviewing her and five other candidates. Stevens replaces Michael Schmit who retires Sunday after 37 years of service to the city including 21 years as city administrator.
An open house and meet-and-greet event for Stevens will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Willmar Fire Station.
Stevens has 21 years of experience in city, county and township government and in human services in Iowa, Kansas and Pennsylvania. Before moving to Willmar, she had served as assistant county manager for Sedgwick County, Wichita, Kan., from August 2006 to this year.
Stevens was born and raised in Sioux Falls, S.D., where her parents are living, and she has relatives in the Twin Cities, Annandale, St. Cloud and Willmar areas.
The council will take comments during the open forum, will receive reports from the Community Development Committee and Finance Committee, will consider an off-sale liquor license for Sunray Express and consider a request from Affiliated Community Medical Centers to rezone the former Washington School from government/institution to limited business.
