NEW LONDON - Charles S. Geer, 78 of New London, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Assembly of God Church in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Johnson Funeral Home New London and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Burbank Cemetery in rural New London.
Charles Strong Geer was born on July 5, 1935 on the family farm in Burbank Township, the son of Frank and Lois (Nelson) Geer. He grew up on the farm and attended New London High School. On Aug 11, 1956, Charles was united in marriage to Marilyn Nelson at Lebanon Lutheran Church. They made their home in Spicer, Robbinsdale and Arizona before moving back to New London. Charles was self-employed in auto body for 45 years and later had a septic pumping business he worked with his son, Keith.
Charles was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Willmar. He enjoyed working on cars and motors, racing and spending time with his family. He was inducted into the KRA Speedway Hall of Fame in 2009. He is remembered for his strong faith and love of family.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn; children, Keith Geer of New London, Penny (Randy) Paul of Spicer, and Mark (Linda) Geer of New London; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; siblings, Hugh (Annette) Geer, George Geer, Jim (Celeste) Geer and Gene (Charlie) Nesselhauf and sister-in-law, Jeanette Geer. He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers.
