NEW LONDON - Cherri Lynn Finsaas, 54, of New London, died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Rice Memorial Hospital. The funeral service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Evangelical Free Church in Kerkhoven. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 8 pm, Friday January 18, 2013 at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. www.hafh.org.
Cherri L. Finsaas was born January 4, 1959, in St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of Mack and Beverly (Bartell) Carlson. Cherri attended elementary school in Algona, Iowa, and in 1977, she graduated from Venango High School in Nebraska. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from St. Paul Bible College in 1981.
On August 28, 1982 she was united in marriage to Gerald Finsaas at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hancock, Minnesota. Cherri and Jerry were blessed with nine children. They lived in Fairview, MT, Atwater, MN and settled in New London, MN.
Cherri taught elementary school one year in Taiwan and one year in Fairview, MT. After the start of her family, she homeschooled her nine children. She shared and promoted her love of music to each of her children, enrolling them in violin and piano lessons while they were young. Cherris insatiable desire to learn as well as educate her children brought her immense joy and provided the opportunity for unique learning experiences and an education grounded in faith. Her impact on family, friends, and community had a lasting effect, and will encourage her husband and children to continue living with perseverance and passion.
Cherri was an active member of the Evangelical Free Church of Kerkhoven, where she served on the music and hospitality committees. She was also a member of Willmar Area Scholars at Home (WASH group).
Surviving are her loving husband of 30 years, Gerald; children: Jarrod of Fairview, MT, Hannah (and James) Darabi of Baxter, MN, Naomi of Crystal, MN, Andrew of Fairview, MT, Lydia, Priscilla, Claudia, Joel, and Timothy all of New London, MN; and granddaughter, Isabella. Also surviving are parents, Mack and Beverly Carlson of Raymond, MN; siblings: Dan (and Brenda) Carlson of Palmdale, CA, Lon (and Pam) Carlson of Springdale, AR, Tim (and Iryna) Carlson of Arlington, VA, Ruthann Carlson of Weston, FL, MaryAnn (and Scott) Palin of Billings, MT, Richard (and Adrianna) Carlson of Lennox, SD, and father and mother-in-law, Orvin and Judy Finsaas of Fairview, MT.
She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Sharlene Mekonnen.
