SEDAN -- Chester Martin Strand, 81, of Sedan, formerly of Belgrade, died Sunday at home.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade. Burial will be in St. Francis De Sales Cemetery in Belgrade.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to Rice Hospice.
He was born May 7, 1927, in Belgrade to Reinardth and Ada (Allen) Strand. He grew up in Belgrade where he received his primary schooling.
He married Evelyn Pozorski on May 13, 1946, in Sauk Rapids. He worked for the Soo Line Railroad as a lineman and, over the years, they lived in Sauk Rapids, St. Cloud, Paynesville, New London, Georgeville, Brooten, Carpio, N.D., and, finally, settled in Belgrade. He retired from the railroad in 1987. In 2006, he moved to Sedan to be closer to his daughter.
He is survived by his children: Chester Jr. (and Lynne) of Blaine, Nancy (and Leland) Ward of Terrace, Duane of Wells, Nev., Diane (and Marvin) Kruckenberg of Bismarck, N.D., Kathy (and John) Aubart of Sedan, Kenny (and Brenda) of Bismarck, N.D.; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; siblings: Hazel Snyder of Minneapolis, Ole (and Pat) of Bloomington, Russel (and Marlene) of Georgeville, Donald (and Floris) of Rogers and David (and Jacky) of Brooten.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1985; a son: Donald; and four siblings.
