Child causes distracted-driving crash Sunday evening

WILLMAR -- A small child attempting to climb out of their car seat distracted the driver of a vehicle that left First Street and crashed into a fire hydrant, gas main and building Sunday evening.

According to a news release from Willmar Police Chief David Wyffels, officers investigated the crash around 7:20 p.m. Sunday at First Street South and Augusta Avenue.

The driver, Ugbad Sadiq Hash, 38, made an improper left-hand turned from First Street onto Augusta Avenue and was distracted by the child, causing the vehicle to go over the curb, striking a fire hydrant, gas main and building on the northeast corner of the intersection.
