Church of Scientology starts work in St. Paul

ST. PAUL - The former Science Museum of Minnesota in downtown St. Paul is being turned into the largest Church of Scientology in the Midwest.

The controversial church bought the vacant building three years ago, after the Science Museum moved to its current home on the Mississippi River. Renovations on the building began this week although church officials have not commented on the latest developments.

The Star Tribune reports that a video on the church's Web site indicates the new facility is meant to serve all its followers in the state.

The Church of Scientology also operates a storefront bookstore on Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis.
