CLARA CITY -- A $30,050 grant from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development will help Clara City open the way for an apartment project.

The grant will be used for the demolition and infrastructure costs associated with redeveloping a 2.02-acre site, according to information from the department.

Part of a former public school building on the site will be converted into 12 apartment units.

The project is expected to increase the tax base for the city. The developer is also contributing funding for the project.

The grant funds from the Department of Employment and Economic Development's Redevelopment Grant Program are awarded to help offset the costs of reclaiming and redeveloping blighted property, offering units of government up to 50 percent of the costs of a project. Recipients must provide matching funds as well.
