DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- Administrators and teachers at a Duluth middle school have a clear idea of what students are carrying in their backpacks this year.

Washburn Edison School is requiring its students to pack their books in clear, plastic backpacks. School administrator Bonnie Jorgenson says the see-through backpacks will prevent students from bringing "anything into the building that isn't supposed to be there."

Jorgenson tells the Duluth News Tribune no particular incident prompted the requirement.

Parent Chad Frantz says he doubts whether the clear bags would actually help with security. Frantz says if someone wants to bring something into school, he or she would find a way.
