HAWICK - Clifton G. Nygaard, 84 of Hawick, died on November 12, 2013 at Glen Oaks Care Center, New London. A Celebration of life will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, November 16th at Nordland Lutheran Church rural Paynesville. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Friday, November 15th at Nordland Lutheran Church. In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson and Johnson Funeral Home of New London. www.hafh.org

Clifton was born November 29, 1928 in rural Hawick, Minnesota to Arthur and Gudrun (Swedberg) Nygaard. He was baptized and later confirmed at Nordland Lutheran Church. He lived on the family farm in rural Hawick. He attended District 92 and graduated from New London High School in 1946. He worked for New London Gravel, and as a mechanic at both Nelson Auto and Wicklund Garage in Willmar. On November 12, 1949 he was united in marriage to Doris Lindstrand. They made their home in Willmar until March of 1951 when they moved back to the family farm, where they were blessed with 5 children. They farmed for a number of years, and then built a mechanic shop and started his business, Nygaard Repair. Clifton was an active member of Nordland Lutheran Church. He served on both the council board and cemetery board, sang in the choir, and mens quartet. His church was always very important to him. He also served on the school board, township board and Kandiyohi County Zoning board. He loved hunting, high school wrestling, and other sports. He always loved to spend time with his family.

Clifton died on Tuesday November 12, 2013 at the GlenOaks Care Center in New London at the age of 84. He is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Kathy (Wayne) Steffensen of Hawick, Jim Nygaard of Spicer, Sheree (Ron) Rentz of Buffalo, Jerome (Lori) Nygaard of Hawick and Jeff (Annette) Nygaard of Carlisle, PA; 8 grandsons, 5 granddaughters and their spouses ; 13 great-granddaughters; 10 great-grandsons; 3 sisters, Eileen (Ray) Brede, Audrey (Glen) Stulen and LinNea (James) Ornberg; brother, Gene Nygaard, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law.
