Clinton "Beach Ihlang

NEW LONDON - Clinton "Beach" O. Ihlang, 85 of New London, died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Glen Oaks in New London. His funeral service will be 11:00 am Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer. Burial will be at Burbank Cemetery in rural New London. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Clinton "Beach" Oliver Ihlang was born on April 4, 1928, in New London, the son of Minard L. and Alma R. (Metcalf) Ihlang. He grew up in New London where he attended New London Elementary School and graduated from New London High School with the class of 1946. On November 24, 1950 he entered the United States Army where he served his country in the Korean War.

On December 20, 1952, Beach was united in marriage to Audrey Barber in Spicer. This union was blessed with a son and a daughter. The family made their home in New London where Beach was a printer for Lake County Press for 35 years, retiring in 1987.

Beach was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer where he was active as a Trustee and Deacon. Beach was also a member of the New London American Legion where he served as a past Commander, Adjutant, and as a member of the Drill Squad. Beach also served on the New London Fire Department for 20 years, was a police deputy for 10 years, and New London Assistant Mayor for three terms. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his story telling. Beach enjoyed writing, most recently poetry and stories about his life.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Audrey; children, Paula (Gordy) Sing of Bird Island, and Kevin (Sheryl) Ihlang of Chanhassen; four grandchildren, Josh (Megan) Sing, Matt (Sarah) Sing, Nik Ihlang, and Mitch Ihlang; great grandchildren, Macie Sing, and Aiden Sing; and brother, Lawrence Ihlang, of Olympia, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Minard and Alma Ihlang.
