Clippers top Wolves in OT
Clippers 120, Timberwolves 116 (OT): Blake Griffin had 32 points and 10 rebounds and Jamal Crawford scored 22 points as host Los Angeles notched an improbable victory by defeating Minnesota for the eighth consecutive time.
Jared Dudley scored 15 points and knocked down the go-ahead 3-pointer in overtime as the Clippers won their fifth consecutive game. Chris Paul contributed 19 points and 13 assists and Darren Collison added 18 points off the bench for Los Angeles, which scored four points in the final 13.2 seconds of regulation time to avoid defeat.
Kevin Love scored a season-high 45 points and grabbed 19 rebounds while Nikola Pekovic added a season-best 34 points to go with 14 boards. Pekovic had a chance to force a second overtime but missed a short shot with 5.9 seconds left and Paul hit two free throws with three seconds left to ice it.
Love’s tip-in midway through the fourth quarter gave Minnesota a 101-94 lead and the Timberwolves were still up four with 18 seconds remaining. Back-to-back baskets by Crawford – the latter coming with 7.7 seconds left after Paul’s steal of Kevin Martin in the backcourt – allowed Los Angeles to tie the score and force overtime.
Love had 22 points and nine rebounds in the first half but Minnesota trailed 56-54 at the break. Los Angeles led by 10 early in the third quarter but the Timberwolves rebounded to lead by five late in the stanza before taking an 85-83 lead into the fourth quarter.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Minnesota had a 54-45 edge on the boards, while Clippers C DeAndre Jordan had 17 rebounds for his 13th double-digit effort in 14 games. … Martin scored 16 points and PG Ricky Rubio had 12 assists for the Timberwolves … Los Angeles F Matt Barnes was ejected late in the third quarter after being called for a flagrant 2 foul for crashing into a driving Love.
