Cody Alan Kirgiss was born on May 20, 1990 in Alexandria, Minnesota, the son of Keith Kirgiss and Holly Swanson. He lived in Hector, Minnesota where he attended Buffalo Lake-Hector Schools. In 2004, he moved to Willmar and attended Willmar High School. He was active in community and youth athletic sports programs. Cody received training and earned a college certificate for floor covering installation. He worked in this profession and did various odd jobs in the area. He moved to Olivia in 2012.

He was dedicated in 1991 at the Hector Evangelical Free Church. In 8th Grade received his Bible Instruction Certificate at Evangelical Free Church in Willmar where he was active in Sunday School, Youth Group, and youth retreats.

Cody had a zest for life! He loved all sports, especially basketball - a good left hand 3 point shooter! Even as he's gotten older, guys his age and older would team up for football and basketball! Cody made friends easily and always befriended and included the 'less popular kids'. He had a compassionate heart, willing to listen to one who was hurting. Cody and his dad, Keith, loved being outside, no matter what time of year, riding and working on ATV's, snowmobiles (while his dad did mechanical maintenance, Cody would work on his bikes). Cody loved his bikes!! Keith and Cody built a place in the yard where he and his friends could do jumps & tricks. A big adventure was riding with his dad in the semi when Keith was out on the road....bunking in the truck was the coolest! A highlight for both Cody and Keith was their trips to Duluth.

There's always been a special bond with Cody and his Grandpa Gene--shooting baskets, playing catch, tossing a football. Just recently Cody said, "I want to be a man like Grandpa...he's such a good example for me." Fishing was another thing he enjoyed and he treasured times fishing with his Grandpa Tyrone.

Cody's always had a tender heart towards God and deep inside was the desire to live for Him. Over the years he loved Sunday School, Bible School, and as a teen his Youth Group. It was nothing to load up the car with his un-churched friends as we headed to Youth Group on Wednesday nights! He looked forward to the retreats at Camp Shamineau! He said to his Grandma Jean, "You might think I just go for the fun and sports activities, (we know that was a big part of it!) but I always hear everything that is shared at these retreats and in Sunday School and Youth Group - I just haven't always applied it to my life. I'm working on it."

Cody’s spirit left to join the Lord on April 7, 2013 and his physical body remained for his final generous act to give the gift of life through donation.

He is survived by his son Trey Alan Kirgiss; father Keith Kirgiss of Atwater; mother Holly Latusek of Hutchinson; grandparents: Gene and Jean Kirgiss of Hector, Tyrone and Darcy Mattson of Fargo; special friend and fiancée Raeanna Heck and several other relatives and many friends.

Cody was preceded in death by his grandparents: Erv and Bonnie Swanson and Great-Grandparents: Wesley and Luella Kirgiss, Syl and Marie Vonderheide, and Arnold and Helen Mattson.
